Driver CPC card

The driver qualification card showing periodic Driver CPC training is in date.

This is general information for UK goods-vehicle operators. It is not legal advice. Use the official source on this page, and your operator licence conditions, before you rely on it.

What it is

Most professional lorry drivers need Driver CPC as well as their driving licence. After the initial qualification, drivers keep it by completing 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years. The driver qualification card (DQC) is the card they carry to show the CPC is current. Some drivers are exempt, for example certain non-commercial uses. The exemptions are on GOV.UK, not a matter of company policy.

Who holds it

The driver carries the DQC. The operator should track the expiry and the training hours so a driver is not sent out with a card that has lapsed.

At a visit

A roadside check can ask for the DQC alongside the driving licence and tachograph card. Driving in scope without a valid Driver CPC is an offence for the driver and a systems failure for the operator.
