Financial standing

Evidence that the operator has enough money available to run the licensed fleet.

This is general information for UK goods-vehicle operators. It is not legal advice. Use the official source on this page, and your operator licence conditions, before you rely on it.

What it is

Financial standing is the requirement to have enough money available to maintain vehicles and run the business properly. The amount depends on the type of licence and how many vehicles you are authorised to use. The sums are set in rules that move with exchange rates, so the current figures belong on the official page rather than in a fixed list.

Who holds it

The operator, or the finance lead, should be able to produce recent evidence: bank or building society statements, or other proof the traffic commissioner accepts. It is evidence of funds available, not a certificate you display in the cab.

At a visit

On a new application, a variation, or a public inquiry, the traffic commissioner can ask for up-to-date proof. A licence can be refused or revoked if standing is not met. Do not rely on a screenshot of an old figure.
